Abstract

This IDC study updates the forecast for the search and discovery software market, and examines major vendors' performance in 2007 and the first half of 2008. Market trends and drivers are examined. The search and discovery software market grew at 28% in 2007. Its performance into the first half of 2008 appears to continue its previous growth. This market analysis is given within the context of the deepening economic gloom, which so far seems to have no effect on this software market. Reasons for the continuing boom of the market are discussed.

"The search and discovery software market continues to outperform the software market as a whole," says Sue Feldman, IDC's VP for search and discovery technologies. "Amidst the economic confusion of September 2008, it is a bright spot that so far shows no signs of slowing down."
