Philippines’ SMEs Enterprise Mobility and WLAN adoption on the rise, says IDC
04 Nov 2008
Manila, 29 October 2008 – IDC's “Philippine Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Survey: Communication Usage and Purchasing Behavior” (Doc # PH204104Q), revealed that the country's small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), defined as companies with 499 or fewer employees, has reach a good degree of enterprise mobility and WLAN adoption, either throughout or in specific areas in their organizations.
Close to 49% of organizations interviewed for the survey confirmed that at least 50% of their workforce have access to enterprise mobility devices, while 46% have access to WLAN infrastructure. These SMEs also provide a wide range of basic applications via mobile networks, WLAN/WiFi, or both.
Based on the survey, the most popular basic applications were group calls, personal information manager, SMS and SMS applications and mobile email services. These services are being used by 44% to 49% of organizations interviewed. Among advanced mobile applications, the most commonly adopted are services such as mobile access to corporate VPN and enterprise applications with 40% and 44% adoption rate respectively.
“Given the increasingly fast-paced corporate environment and fierce competition in the marketplace, more organizations are looking toward utilizing mobility technologies as tools that would help increase operational efficiency and competitive advantage,” says Karen Rondon, Research Manger for Telecommunications Group at IDC Philippines. "Within the next two years, we expect to see an expansion of basic mobile applications that Philippine SMEs use. Furthermore, upgrades and enhancements of mobile networks and devices will facilitate growth in adoption of advance mobile applications.”
IDC's research, Philippine Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Survey: Communication Usage and Purchasing Behavior identifies trends in the corporate data and Internet access service uptake, enterprise telephony and enterprise mobility adoption by SMEs in the Philippines. It also examines service provider preferences of companies in this segment.
