Abstract

This IDC study is an update to the 2021 maturity assessment benchmark for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) (fewer than 500 employees). This year the study has been expanded to include the midmarket segment (500–999 employees) and covers key areas of focus that will help them better compete in a digital-first landscape. Specifically, this model serves as a guide for SMB and midmarket companies' decision-makers to achieve mastery across the five key primary dimensions and five secondary dimensions and to embed resilience.

This document is designed for SMB decision-makers or influencers and their teams who are responsible for the creation and delivery of technology-related capabilities aligned with their business priorities. It presents the Asia/Pacific (including Japan) (APJ) results of IDC's 2023 Digital SMB MaturityScape Benchmark Survey and should be viewed alongside IDC MaturityScape: The Digital SMB — A Framework for Resiliency (IDC #AP46602321, October 2020). Together, these research documents provide a comprehensive overview of IDC's digital SMB maturity model.

"As the market evolves with rapid technological advancements, SMBs and midmarket companies in APJ must speed up their digitalization journey. Fostering a culture of innovation and embracing emerging technologies will be crucial for improving customer engagements and staying competitive. This can be achieved through putting in place cultural changes, sustainable development, process and partner agility, and enhanced experiences for both customers and employees," says Supriya Deka, research manager, Small and Medium-Sized Businesses and Digital-Native Businesses, IDC Asia/Pacific.
