Abstract
This IDC Perspective explores the correlation between IT and OT collaboration and the successful scale out and value recognition of digital initiatives. Today, being a digital-first business is a prerequisite to competition. For enterprises, this has meant the widespread deployment of IT to capture and exchange information that drives faster and more informed business processes. Traditionally, IT has been chartered with driving transformation of back-office functions and operational technology (OT) being deployed into factory settings that were largely initiated and supported by these teams. Now, significant OT and the data it generates must be incorporated into modern digital transformation (DX) initiatives.
In this research, the foundational elements of IT/OT convergence are investigated through real-life case studies from industrial organizations to provide key insights and best practices for organizations on their digital journeys. "The criticality of the organizational and collaborative component of these transformation initiatives cannot be understated," says Jonathan Lang, Research Director, IDC Operations Insights.
