Abstract


This IDC Market Presentation examines key findings from IDC's 2024 Generative AI Survey that targets United States–based developers. The findings examine topics such as the adoption of AI coding assistants, key benefits of AI coding assistants, and capabilities of AI coding assistants that developers used. Coding assistants that this study examined include GitHub Copilot, Amazon Q, GitLab Duo, Google Gemini Code Assist, and IBM watsonx Code Assistant. In addition, this IDC Market Presentation examines the topic of developer adoption of foundation models such as OpenAI's GPT-4, IBM Granite, Google Gemini 1.5 Pro, Anthropic's Claude 3, Meta Llama 3, and models from Mistral such as Mistral 8x7B and Mistral 7B.
