Abstract

This IDC Market Share provides a brief overview of the performance of the EMEA external enterprise storage systems (ESS) market in 2022.

"2023 was an interesting year for the OEM External storage market in EMEA. Vendors that rode the wave in 2021 and 2022 were now struck back with a tough macroeconomic environment. On the other hand, vendors that — either by necessity, sheer will power, or a well thought out strategy — decided to take control of their fates were the most successful this year," said Luis Fernandes, senior research manager, IDC EMEA Future of Digital Infrastructure. "Vendors that sacrificed a few points in margin to keep up with declining revenues, focused on supply chain optimization, and gave customers options in the form of innovative storage-buying experiences such as storage hardware as a service were the most successful in EMEA in 2023. The ESS market is expected to see a return to growth in 2024; it remains to be seen which vendors will learn from 2023 and which ones will waste their opportunities."
