Abstract

This IDC presentation discusses the SGP.32 embedded subscriber identification module (eSIM) specification for cellular IoT. It looks at the purposes of eSIMs and remote SIM provisioning (RSP) and evaluates the impact the new specification will have on the market.

eSIMs have long promised to unlock the cellular IoT market. They should ease device manufacturing and simplify the remote management of fleets of Internet of Things devices. However, previous RSP specifications have not met requirements. Now, a new specification, SGP.32, promises to fix the flaws of earlier versions. Will this new specification launch cellular IoT to the moon?
