Abstract

This study summarizes the results of qualitative and quantitative analyses of the Japan public cloud services market based on information collected by the end of January 2023.

Although public cloud services have become popular in the Japan market, at this point, traditional IT environments outnumber cloud environments (including private clouds) as the operating environment for systems and workloads. In other words, even if the rate of increase in the number of companies newly adopting public cloud services is on a downward trend, the business opportunities for this service are significant. Meanwhile, the growing use of public cloud services is accounting for a larger share of IT spending, and an increasing number of companies are making more efficient use of these services (in particular, cost optimization). In addition, an increasing number of companies are going cloud-native to facilitate DX and data-driven business. "It is important for vendors to be proactive about new approaches such as financial operations (FinOps) and in-house production support, and to promote the development of cloud environments while facilitating the growth of user companies," says Satoshi Matsumoto, research director, Software and Services, IDC Japan.
