Abstract

This IDC Survey details the results from IDC's 2022 U.S. Smart Home Survey, which was fielded in July. The survey asked respondents questions regarding consumer adoption of and attitudes toward a variety of smart home devices and services, security and privacy concerns, and smart assistants. This IDC Survey focuses on aspects of the survey that are related to the use of networked entertainment devices in the home.

"Smart TVs have now outpaced digital media adapters in the home," said Adam Wright, senior research analyst for IDC's Smart Home and Office Devices program. "But despite their proliferation, purchase drivers and use cases still center around practical features like the need to replace an old TV rather than advanced applications like interacting with the smart home. In addition, most owners still connect an ancillary streaming player to the smart TV, signaling that smart TVs continue to be underutilized and fail to deliver comparable experiences to digital media adapters."
