Abstract
This IDC Market Perspective provides a preliminary unit shipment range for worldwide hard disk drive (HDD) units by HDD class and estimated supplier market shares for 1Q23.
"High inventory, especially among the major cloud service providers, continues to plague the HDD industry in at least the first half of 2023," according to Ed Burns, research director, Worldwide Hard Disk Drives at IDC. "While IDC expects that the inventory situation will normalize and demand from China will improve over the next couple of quarters, improvement is progressing slowly on both fronts, and weakening macroeconomic conditions poses an additional risk over the near term as interest rate increases are starting to have an impact."
