Abstract

This IDC study examines the vendor revenue performance for the team collaboration applications market for 2023. This document also examines how the market is positioned for continued feature acceleration and growth. IDC estimates that in 2023, the worldwide team collaboration applications market marked its eighth consecutive year of double-digit growth. Today, the world is more visual, engaging, and interesting — and work needs to reflect these changes — and the changes are not even close to being finished. What was just text and messaging has evolved to collaborating more effectively across different modalities. The collaborative user interface is already evolving to meet new business challenges. Increasingly, team collaboration applications are deriving new benefits and productivity through integration across multiple IT stacks. With the help of AI, we are leaving the metrics of the industrial era and starting to enter a time where new digital metrics will evolve to connect collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking to customer outcomes and product and process improvements.

"The world is becoming more visual, interesting, and engaging. Enterprise success will be tied to its ability to engage and empower its workforce, partners, and customers," according to Wayne Kurtzman, research vice president, Social, Communities, and Collaboration at IDC. "Collaboration is a human dynamic in which people work together for a common outcome. The right technologies help people scale their abilities. Content is becoming multimodal and asynchronous, enabling richer communications. Collaborative and other interfaces will take on elements of a multiplayer game and be more visual, equitable, inclusive, and powerful. Evolving metrics will connect creativity, innovation, and collaboration to customer outcomes."
