Abstract


This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation helps elaborate on the concept of renaissance thinking.

To help clients avoid hyper-specialization, business consulting providers have a variety of ways that they use to enable businesses to think with depth and breadth. I recommend that you develop this capability in your organization, especially with your leadership. My terminology for this type of business capability is renaissance thinking. The term comes from the many renaissance thinkers (Michelangelo, Descartes, etc.) who were able to look deeply into a given discipline such as math, arts, science, literature, or philosophy to better understand how it affects the world — and not just the immediate problem it is investigating.

To better prepare your organization to face a changing environment and customer, consider enabling your leaders to think with breadth and depth, to be renaissance thinkers, so that your organization can switch gears when the market does, instead of digging deeper when your customers have moved on.

This presentation describes renaissance thinking in greater detail, including a maturity scale and advice for the tech buyer.
