Abstract

The dramatic increase in the awareness of generative AI (GenAI) promises to drastically reduce the time and costs associated with use cases inked to automation and intelligence. Companies are now beginning to assess early proofs of concept (POCs) and production rollouts begun in 2023 and prioritizing workforce improvements. As organizations become more experienced with GenAI, they are coming to recognize it as a major new corporate workload that requires dedicated infrastructure and partner strategies to support adoption and deployment.

This survey provides key findings from IDC's 2024 Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending (FERS) Survey, Wave 4, which focuses on issues related to GenAI adoption and its implications for IT investment, the emergence of Gen AI as a strategic workload, success rate assessments of early POC/production rollouts, and partnering decisions. It is the second of four (quarterly) IDC documents based on GenAI-centric FERS Surveys that will investigate the implications of GenAI across regions, technologies, and industries. This survey of 889 respondents in North America, Asia/Pacific, and Western Europe was conducted in April 2024 while IT leaders were executing initial GenAI plans and making longer-term strategic choices.
