Abstract

This IDC Market Note focuses on Oracle's development strategy and vast collaborative resources the company provides customers to learn more about the technologies, share best practices, and request future enhancements in an aggregated fashion. Among all software technologies where one size does not fit all, identity security would have to rank in the top 3. Having existed in one form or another for some 60 years, the only way to comprehend the typical IAM jumble most organizations have today is to look in the rearview mirror to see the investments made and the development path taken trying to secure access to applications and data throughout three generations of computing architectures — host, client/server, microservices. Mainframes never really went away, LAN protocols still exist, but many of the client/server platforms benefitted from technologies like LDAP that were much more portable across platform software differences.

Oracle and OCI Identity offerings have a unique development style that serves users well. Will it eventually include more GenAI capabilities and threat intelligence features? IDC is confident that it will, and as the number of vendors in the market decreases due to consolidation — which must happen, Oracle will still be in the hunt.
