This IDC Survey Spotlight examines results from IDC's 2024 EdgeView Survey.
The market has been experimenting with digital infrastructure deployed at the edge for a number of years. Although there is much talk about the potential for edge, technology providers have limited insight into the current state of maturity and whether the investments are paying off. In this IDC Survey Spotlight, data from IDC's 2024 EdgeView Survey suggests that manufacturing (the most mature industries for edge projects) is recognizing satisfactory returns on investment. Gains in operational efficiency are straightforward to measure and likely contribute to positive returns on investment. IDC's 2024 EdgeView Survey includes 800 respondents from North America, Western Europe, and Asia/Pacific countries across a variety of industries.
