Abstract


This IDC Survey Spotlight shows that a narrow majority of commerce professionals are interested in re-platforming their commerce stack to pursue alternatives. This IDC Survey Spotlight is a slice taken directly from the digital commerce track of IDC's 2024 CX Path Survey. Data in this presentation refutes the notion that technology buyers are predominantly interested in augmenting (as opposed to replacing) their solutions for digital commerce. The opposite is more likely the case based on data. The data indicates that the current macroeconomic conditions may be challenging commerce technology budgets, but the desire to adopt newer-generation digital commerce technology persists among most buyers in the three largest regions surveyed: the Americas, Europe, and Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan).

The narrow margin of difference alludes to the perils of convenience sampling about this topic — it is very important to ask as broad of a relevant audience as possible with assets like IDC's CX Path Survey. Deeper analysis of the survey results insinuate that all-in-one solutions may not be sufficient for these buyers, many of whom may cycle through monolithic enterprise commerce platforms in pursuit of greener pastures when more agile, extensible, and technologically unopinionated platforms may ultimately be better suited for their needs.
