Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight explores the way in which end-user organizations are approaching the modernization of mainframe computing systems as part of their wider IT architectures. It includes data from IDC's 2024 Enterprise Infrastructure Pulse Survey. Survey respondents include global users of mainframe systems who were asked to describe their organization's approach to mainframe modernization, as well as the main reason for their organization's decision to modernize its mainframe systems.

According to Chris Drake, senior research director, Compute Infrastructure and Service Provider Trends at IDC, "Mainframe users are at various stages in the mainframe modernization journey, with organizations citing various reasons for their decision to modernize. As more organizations look to modernize their mainframe workloads as part of a broader digital transformation strategy, this is creating opportunities for IT vendors and service providers to help them make crucial decisions about whether, how, and where to modernize those workloads."
