Abstract

This IDC Market Presentation provides an in-depth look at datacenter AI networking and non–AI networking. AI networking is experiencing significant growth, shifting network spending and reinvigorating legacy technologies such as InfiniBand, while newer technologies like Ultra Ethernet are emerging. This new market segment is expanding rapidly, although networking expenditure spans a broad array of markets and products.

Datacenter AI networking is evolving and includes components like DPUs, IPUs, NICs, HCAs, PCIe Switches, NVLink Switches, Ethernet Switches, AI Routers, InfiniBand Switches, and Optical Ports/Transceivers. AI will integrate with traditional networking at the edge, and AI clusters, utilizing AI networking, can be deployed in various environments.

In contrast, traditional networking encompasses a more diverse spectrum, from the 5G/carrier networks to the backbone/core, extending to the cloud and MEC, the telco edge, enterprises, private 5G, FWA, and consumer endpoints.

This Market Presentation aggregates market data and highlights the key differences between these segments.
