Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight examines business adoption of wireless broadband/fixed wireless access (FWA) for office and branch connectivity through the view of respondents to two IDC surveys: IDC's April 2024 SD WAN Survey and September 2023 Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Survey, Wave 8.

The historical variability in wireless networks, as viewed through the mobile phone experience, has contributed to perceptions of unreliable or inconsistent connections when using cellular networks for robust business connectivity. The potential for outages, slow throughput, high latency, or other disruptions are nonstarters for many business decision-makers when considering broadband solutions. However, as the coverage, and performance, of 5G networks has grown in recent years, businesses are increasingly reevaluating their willingness to adopt wireless broadband for their onsite office and branch connectivity needs.
