Abstract

This IDC Market Presentation describes the critical drivers — important external forces — that will shape the global business ecosystem and influence enterprise IT and business strategies for the next 12–24 months. The 2025 drivers were identified, developed, and reviewed by a cross-functional international analyst team at IDC. This year's document reveals 10 interrelated critical drivers that coalesce around four major themes: emerging tech, macro risks, business models, and people and society. The driver descriptions provide the context and overall IT impact of the disruptive effects of artificial intelligence (AI), automation, environmental risk, workplace transformation, regulatory flux, cybersecurity, geoeconomics, human-centric technology, technical debt, and changing customer experience. These 10 drivers provide the foundation for the development of IDC FutureScape predictions for 2025.
