Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight looks at the most preferred contactless payment types by shopper age.

Today's shoppers have greater expectations for seamless omni-channel payments/checkout, both in-store and online, and are increasingly willing to walk away from retailers that do not meet the higher bar. Nearly 45%of shoppers globally said they were likely/very likely to walk away from a retailer that did not offer their preferred payment types or financing options. Retailers should take note of the evolving payment preferences that differ by age.

While credit/debit cards are the most preferred payment type for shoppers of all ages, each demographic group had differing preference for contactless payment types beyond credit/debit cards, including tap to pay, QR codes, biometric pay, and mobile wallets.
