Abstract

This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation provides insights from several presentations that IDC delivered at CIO forums/roundtables as well as in meetings with tech industry leaders in the summer of 2024. They focused on the barriers to greater rollouts of AI projects into production and the key priorities that CIOs should be setting during the 2025 budget/planning process to ensure more effective adoption of AI across the business.

Hyper-experimentation with generative AI (GenAI) dominated efforts for the past 18 months. The typical enterprise launched dozens of proofs of concept (POCs), but put less than six into production. This GenAI scramble is not sustainable for enterprises, or for technology providers in the AI supply chain, which care about converting POCs into production capabilities with global implications for overall economic growth.

This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation identifies the seven critical areas (strategy, governance, people, apps, AI platforms, data, and infrastructure) where tech teams need to break down barriers and set long-term goals to ensure business success.
