Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight examines developer adoption of large language models to create generative AI applications. In particular, the survey takes up the question of developer adoption of models such as OpenAI GPT-4, Google Gemini 1.5 Pro, IBM Granite, Anthropic Claude 3, and models from Mistral such as Mixtral 8X7B and Mistral 7B. Another topic that this document examines is the question of the extent to which small language models such as Microsoft's Phi-3 and Google Gemma are adopted by developers. In addition, this IDC Survey Spotlight reviews the topic of the adoption of open models in contrast to proprietary models.
